Abstract: A common perception for a new nurse orientation program is one of several long days or weeks passively receiving information about an institution's policies, procedures, and other regulatory matters. One organization set out to change that perception with the implementation of the Essential Nursing Guidance and Growth Experience (E.N.G.A.G.E.) program. The presenters describe one organization’s journey using E.N.G.A.G.E. to improve the satisfaction of newly hired experienced nurses while providing an umbrella for onboarding newly licensed nurses through various residency programs. This presentation includes an overview of E.N.G.A.G.E., tips for success, lessons learned, and how the various clinical residency programs helped improve the retention of newly licensed nurses.

Outcome: Participating in the webinar and providing at least one example of how you will apply what you learned demonstrates your ability to:

  1. Describe how an integrative model of nursing residencies improves the retention rates of newly licensed nurses.
  2. Identify the steps for an interactive engaging orientation program to improve the satisfaction of experienced nurses.
